Growing in faith is a life-long process and the diversity of our faith journeys is a gift from God. Each of us has different ways of tending to our spiritual well-being and adult faith formation at Good Soil aims to offer a variety of spaces and opportunities to meaningfully do that.

Some of our faith formation gatherings are more casual and others are more structured, but all involve coming as you are and engaging questions of faith together in the context of the beloved community.

Some of our more recent faith formation opportunities:

Lent 2024– Centering Prayer, which is a method of silent prayer in which we experience the gift of God’s presence with us. It’s a method of prayer that reaches back to the early days of Christianity. Centering prayer is a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with him, and a variety of devotional choices for the season of lent: Bless The Lent We Actually Have and Gathered Into One.

Summer and Fall 2023 – Faith formation activities and events for our 20’s and 30’s age cohort (holy hikes, dinner church, lectio divina, etc).

Easter 2023 – Acts Bible Study via zoom exploring themes in the book of Acts and reflecting on those themes in connection with Good Soil’s new purpose statement and guiding principles.

Lent 2023 – Lenten Small Groups, meeting via zoom or in-person during the season of Lent. Groups meet once a week to share highs, lows, and God moments, engage in a devotional practice, and respond to a spiritual reflection question.

Advent 2022 – We are offering an opportunity for you to deepen your faith with fellow Good Soil members and friends through a once a week small group reflection time during the season of Advent.  Each group will be facilitated by a Good Soil member and will include Bible reflections, devotions, prayer, and fellowship.

Fall 2022 – Pub theology returned! Grounded in reality and committed to God’s grace made real in Christ, Lutherans are able to be both hopeful and realistic in a way that is unique and life-giving.  But to do that, we need to have a good idea what is in our hand and how to articulate our faith in clear and accessible language.  Lutheran pastor Dave Daubert gives 13 ideas (Ace through Two of our Lutheran “suit”) for how we can understand and articulate our faith in today’s world.

Lent 2022 – Lenten Small Groups, meeting via zoom or in-person during the season of Lent. Groups meet once a week to share highs, lows, and God moments, engage in a devotional practice, and respond to a spiritual reflection question.

Advent 2021 – “Faith at Work” Vocational Interviews, sharing with one another how we live out our faith in the workplace and our daily lives, joining with God’s work in the world as Christ’s hands, feet, and voices.

October 2021 – “Pub Theology,” Exploring questions of faith and society while enjoying food and beverages at Hooley House, Westlake

Summer 2021 – “Looking Back, Looking Forward,” our stories, the church’s story, and God’s story – sharing and dreaming about the future together

March 2021 – Faith5 at 5 (Lenten Gatherings), Share, Read, Talk, Pray, Bless — a power half hour of simple, yet meaningful discipleship practices

October 2020 – “Pub Theology,” Exploring questions of faith and society while enjoying a beverage of your choice

August 2020 – Evening Prayer, Exploring different types of prayer: Psalms, The Examen, Lectio Divina, and Visio Divina
